Chinese Military Unveils QBU-191 Video
The Chinese military has unveiled a video featuring the QBU-191, a newly introduced designated marksman rifle in the Chinese army's arsenal. This rifle is an advanced variant of the QBZ-191 assault rifle, characterized by a longer barrel and additional modifications to enhance its precision. It has been officially adopted to replace the older QBU-88, which has a bullpup configuration.
The QBU-191 derives its design from the QBZ-191 assault rifle, sharing many common components, which helps lower production costs and streamline logistics, maintenance, and functionality. The adaptability of the rifle from one configuration to another remains unspecified. Compared to its predecessor, the QBU-191 offers a more user-friendly design.
This rifle is designed for the 5.8x42 mm round, a standard caliber used across China's range of assault rifles, designated marksman rifles, and light machine guns. The QBU-191 is optimized for precision-grade ammunition, featuring a longer, streamlined bullet with a steel core, although it can also fire standard rounds with a slight decrease in accuracy.
The rifle includes an ambidextrous fire selector above the pistol grip for easy thumb operation, and notably, it maintains a full-auto fire capability. This allows the QBU-191, with its high-capacity magazine, to serve as a squad support weapon if needed, despite not being originally designed for this role.
Ammunition is supplied via detachable 30-round magazines, with the new Chinese polymer magazines mirroring the Magpul design, including an ammunition level indicator.
Adjustability is a key feature of the QBU-191, with a telescopic stock that offers four length settings, improving upon the one-size approach of the QBU-88.
The rifle is equipped with a Picatinny-type rail for attaching a variety of scopes and night vision devices, with a sighting range of up to 800 meters and an effective firing range of about 600 meters. This does not classify the QBU-191 as a sniper rifle, but it significantly enhances the operational range of an infantry squad. Additionally, it includes flip-up iron sights for emergency situations.
The foregrip is designed to accommodate various accessories, such as bipods, laser pointers, and tactical flashlights, further augmenting its versatility.
